An old town in Kitatakaki District, Nagasaki Prefecture, bordering the east side of Isahaya City. It faces the Ariake Sea to the north and Chijiwa Bay (Tachibana Bay) to the south. The Ariake Coast has been reclaimed since ancient times and has become a rice-growing area. In addition to producing lotus root, tomatoes, strawberries, and other crops, the town also cultivates fruit and raises livestock. The Shimabara Railway runs through the area. In March 2005, it was incorporated into Isahaya City along with Tarami Town in Nishisonogi District, and Imori Town, Takaki Town, and Konagai Town in Kitatakaki District. 23.26 km2 . 6,266 people (2003). 長崎県北高来(きたたかき)郡,諫早(いさはや)市の東に接する旧町。北は有明海,南は千々石(ちぢわ)湾(橘湾)に面する。有明海岸は古来干拓が進み米作地帯化。れんこん,トマト,イチゴなどを産するほか,果樹栽培,畜産も行う。島原鉄道が通じる。2005年3月西彼杵郡多良見町,北高来郡飯盛町,高来町,小長井町と諫早市へ編入。23.26km2。6266人(2003)。
