Moscow Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra (English: Simfonicheskii orkestr moskovskoi filarmonii)
A Russian orchestra founded in Moscow in 1951 by Samuil Abramovich Samosud (1884-1964), who served as conductor until 1960. Kirill Petrovich Kondrashin (1914-1981) then took over as conductor until 1975, and elevated the orchestra to a first-class level. Perhaps because of its short history, the orchestra's tone and balance can sometimes seem a little rough, but it is known for its heavy performances.
