A thin membrane of skin between the toes of aquatic animals. It is found in frogs, waterfowl, otters, and some mammals, and helps them paddle when swimming or diving. Depending on the degree of development of the webbing, birds' toes are classified as totipalmate (all four toes are webbed; only in Pelicans), palmate (the front three toes are webbed; ducks, gulls, shearwaters, etc.), or semipalmate (there is a small web between the base of the toes).
