Mazepa

Hetman of the Ukrainian Cossacks. Educated at the Polish court, he was trusted by the Russian Tsar Peter I. In the middle of the Northern War, he betrayed Peter and tried to gain Ukrainian independence, siding with Sweden, but was defeated at the Battle of Poltava and fled to Turkey, where he died. ウクライナ・コサックの頭目（ヘトマン）。ポーランド宮廷で教育を受け，ロシア皇帝ピョートル１世の信任を受けた。北方戦争半ばにウクライナ独立を策してピョートルを裏切り，スウェーデンに味方したがポルタワの戦に敗れ，トルコにのがれて没。ウクライナで民族的英雄とされている。
