A region along the Baltic Sea, spanning Germany and Poland. Its German name is Pommern, and its English name is Pomerania. Historically, it was the site of territorial disputes between Poland and Germany. It is divided into Eastern Pomerania, centered around Gdansk, and Western Pomerania, centered around Szczecin. Slavs settled there from the 5th century. In the 12th century, it was Christianized and Germanized. It later became part of the Holy Roman Empire. In 1648, it was divided into Sweden and Brandenburg by the Treaty of Westphalia, but eventually became part of Prussia, and after World War II, it was divided into Germany (then East Germany) and Poland.

バルト海沿岸，ドイツとポーランドにまたがる地方。ドイツ名はポンメルンPommern，英語名はポメラニアPomerania。歴史的にポーランドとドイツの領土争いの場であった。グダンスクを中心とした東ポモジェとシュチェチンを中心とした西ポモジェに分かれる。５世紀からスラブ人が定住。12世紀にキリスト教化がはかられ，ドイツ化。のち神聖ローマ帝国の一部となった。1648年ウェストファリア条約でスウェーデンとブランデンブルクに２分されたが，やがてプロイセン領となり，第２次大戦後ドイツ（当時の東独）とポーランドに分かれた。
