A Greek comedy by Aristophanes. It was performed in 388 BC. It is the last surviving work of Aristophanes. The spirit of the old comedy, full of free-spirited attack and criticism, has disappeared and it has fallen into vulgar humor, and the role of the chorus is almost nonexistent, marking the transition from old comedy to middle comedy.God of FortuneSource: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
