Bingen am Rhein

A city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in western Germany. Population 24,700 (2000). A key transportation location upstream of the narrow Bingerloch section of the Rhine and at the confluence with the Nahe, a tributary on the left bank. A fort was built here in Roman times, and a stronghold in the Middle Ages. It is a railway junction, and there is a freight yard in the Bingabrücke district. With many famous wine-producing regions nearby, it is known as a wine trading center. It is the departure and arrival point for sightseeing boats in the Rhine Gorge, and a tourist base.

ドイツ西部、ラインラント・プファルツ州の都市。人口2万4700（2000）。ライン川の狭窄(きょうさく)部ビンガーロッホの上流、左岸の支流ナーエ川との合流点に位置する交通の要地。ローマ時代には砦(とりで)が、中世には要塞(ようさい)が置かれた。鉄道の分岐点にあたり、ビンガブリュッケ地区には貨物操車場がある。近隣に著名なワイン産地が多く、ワイン取引地として知られる。ライン峡谷の遊覧船の発着地、観光の拠点。
