Byotake

This mushroom is a member of the Ascocyst fungus family, Discomycetes, Helotium order, Helotiales, and Helotaceae family that commonly grows on fallen trees and dead branches. It is relatively small, about 5 mm in diameter, but it grows in colonies, making it easy to notice. A dish-shaped mushroom grows on a thin stalk, and this dish-shaped part is called the ascocyst. It resembles fungi of the Chamaecystaceae family in that it has a dish-shaped ascocyst, but differs in that the head structure of the ascocyst lacks a lid. Representative species include the bright yellow Helotium sulphurinum Quél., which has a dish with a diameter of 1 to 2 mm; Chlorosplenium aeruginosum (Gray) De Not., which has a dish with a diameter of 2 to 5 mm, is bright green-blue overall, and stains the wood blue-green; and the elastic rubber-like Bulgaria inquinans Fr.

倒木や枯枝にごくふつうに生える子囊菌類の盤菌類ビョウタケ目ビョウタケ科のキノコ。直径5mm前後と比較的小さいが，群生するので目につきやすい。細い柄の上に皿状のキノコができ，その皿状の部分を子囊盤という。皿状の子囊盤をもつ点でチャワンタケ科の菌に似るが，子囊の頭部構造にふたを欠く点で異なる。代表種に，直径1～2mmの皿をもち鮮黄色のモエギビョウタケHelotium sulphurinum Quél.や，直径2～5mmの皿をもち，全体が鮮やかな緑青色で，材を青緑色に染めるロクショウグサレキンChlorosplenium aeruginosum (Gray) De Not.，弾力あるゴム質のゴムタケBulgaria inquinans Fr.などがある。
