The Italian word for "small" refers to an instrument that covers the high range among a group of instruments with different ranges. It is also used in English, where it is called the piccolo trumpet. However, the term piccolo generally refers to an aerophone instrument with a range one octave higher than the flute. It is an abbreviation of the Italian term flute piccolo (small flute), and is thought to have been developed in the early 19th century in a form similar to the current one. Some have metal pipes, but wooden pipes are still widely used, and their shape retains the form of the old (pre-Boehm) flute, with a cylindrical head pipe that tapers to a taper. The key mechanism is the Boehm system, and the fingering is basically the same as that of the flute. The range is D5 - C8 for the most common C pipe. A D♭ pipe is also sometimes used in wind ensembles. [Ryūji Uta] [Reference] |©Yamaha "> Piccolo Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
