The International Society for Kṛṣṇa (Krishna) Consciousness is commonly referred to as such. It was founded in 1965 by the Indian Abhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who came to the United States. Influenced by the passionate Krishna worship movement of the 16th-century Indian religious leader Chaitanya, the society preaches absolute devotion to the god Vishnu, or bhakti-yoga, and is famous for chanting "Hare Krishna" while beating drums and cymbals.

国際クリシュナ意識協会International Society for Kṛṣṇa(Krishna) Consciousnessの活動を一般にこう呼ぶ。1965年，インド人バクティベーダーンタ･スワミ･プラブパーダAbhay Charanaravinda Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupadaが渡米して創始した。16世紀インドにおける宗教家チャイタニヤの熱情的なクリシュナ崇拝運動に影響を受け，ビシュヌ神への絶対帰依，すなわち信愛ヨーガbhakti‐yoga(バクティ)を説き，ドラム，シンバルを打ち鳴らしながら〈ハレー･クリシュナ〉を唱えるので有名。
