Born: 1155. Sufrawald [Died] 1191. A mystical philosopher from Aleppo-Persia. Although he was within Islam, he considered existence to be light, and tried to justify it using the doctrines of ancient Persian Zoroastrianism and Platonic theory of ideas. He placed the world of imagination between the world of wisdom and the world of the senses, and believed that this could explain mystical experiences. Because of his heretical ideas, he was not accepted by the orthodox Islamic ulama of the time, and was killed by Salah ad-Din. His influence remained in Eastern Islam, and later became mainstream in the Isfahan School, and was also incorporated into Shiite doctrine, combining with Avicennaism.
