André Barsacq

French director and set designer. Born in Crimea, he moved to France after the Russian Revolution. He gained attention for his set design for Durand's Volpone (1928). He later formed a theater company and directed Jean Anouilh's Le Ball des Thieves (1938), which he successfully performed. Since 1940, he has also demonstrated his talent as manager of the Atelier Théâtre, directing many of Anouilh's works, as well as the premieres of Marcel Aime's Other's Head (1952) and Sagan's A Swedish Castle (1960).

フランスの演出家，舞台装置家。クリミア生れだが，ロシア革命後フランスに移住。デュラン演出の《ボルポーネ》(1928)の舞台装置で注目される。のち劇団を結成し，劇作家ジャン･アヌイの《泥棒たちの舞踏会》(1938)をみずから演出，成功を収める。1940年以来アトリエ座の支配人としても手腕を発揮し，多くのアヌイの作品のほか，マルセル･エーメの《他人の首》(1952)，サガンの《スウェーデンの城》(1960)などの初演の演出もする。
