Celebration stick - Iwaibou
A sacred wooden stick used in celebrations of Little New Year (January 15th). It is called a porridge stirrer because it is used to stir the porridge for Little New Year, a human thief stick in Awaji because children would hit girls on the back when they passed by, a pregnancy rolling stick (Kagoshima Prefecture) because it is used to hit a newly-wed bride on the back to wish for fertility, a bride beating stick (Kanto region), and a bird-chasing stick because it is used in a bird-chasing event.

小正月(1月15日)の予祝行事に用いる神聖な木の棒。小正月の粥(かゆ)をかき回すために用いるので粥かき棒,淡路(あわじ)では子どもが道行く娘の腰を打つので人こき棒,新嫁の腰を打って多産を望むので孕(はら)めん棒(鹿児島県),嫁たたき棒(関東地方),鳥追行事に用いるので鳥追棒などという。
