Váh (river)

Japanese: バーフ[川]（英語表記）Váh

A tributary of the Danube in western Slovakia, it is the longest river in the country. It is 390 km long. It flows west from the Tatry Mountains in the north to the Žilina Basin, then turns southwest and south, and joins the Danube near Komárno. The river basin forms the most important industrial area in Slovakia, with mechanical engineering in the middle reaches of Trenčín, Dubnica nad Váhom, and Považská Bystrica, and woodworking, chemical, textile, and mechanical engineering in the upper reaches of Žilina, Martin, and Ružomberok.

スロバキア西部を流れるドナウ川の支流で，同国最長の川。全長390km。北部タトリ山地からジリナŽilina盆地まで西に流れ，その後流れを南西，南に変え，コマールノ付近でドナウ川本流と合流する。流域はスロバキアで最も重要な工業地区を形成し，中流域のトレンチーンTrenčín，ドブニツァ･ナド･バーホムDubnica nad Váhom，ポバシュスカー･ビストリツァPovažská Bystricaでは機械工業が，上流域のジリナŽilina，マルチンMartin，ルジョムベロクRužomberokでは木工･化学･繊維･機械工業が盛んである。
