Hatsushima
An island in Sagami Bay, the easternmost part of Shizuoka Prefecture. It belongs to Atami City, and is located about 10 km southeast of the central Atami area. It is a small plateau-like island made of basalt, measuring 0.6 km north to south and 1.2 km east to west , with an area of ​​0.44 km2. Since the Edo period, the number of households has been set at 42, and the custom of second and third sons leaving the island has continued. Landing of seafood was done jointly, and the profits were shared equally. Tourism development has progressed since around 1975, with the opening of vacation resorts, hotels, campsites, and other facilities. Field crops, mainly radishes for pickled radishes, are cultivated, but most farmers run guesthouses. There are regular ferries from Atami and Ito Port.

Hatsushima

Also known as Chikugo Hatsushima. An artificial island in the Ariake Sea, southwest of Fukuoka Prefecture. It belongs to Omuta City and is located about 2 km offshore. It is circular and 135 m in diameter. Construction began in 1949 as an exhaust facility for the coal mining site for the Mitsui Miike Mining Company, which was mining coal seams on the bottom of the Ariake Sea. It took about two years to complete.

Hatsushima

A district in the northwest of Arita City, in the northwest of Wakayama Prefecture. Former town name. Incorporated into Arita City in 1962. An industrial district facing the Kii Channel, it is home to an oil refinery and, together with Shimotsu in Kainan City to the northeast, forms the Shimotsu Port Oil Industrial District. JR Kisei Main Line Hatsushima Station is located here.

静岡県最東端,相模湾に浮ぶ島。熱海市に属し,中心市街地熱海の南東約 10kmの沖にある。南北 0.6km,東西約 1.2km,面積 0.44km2で玄武岩から成る台地状の小島。江戸時代以降戸数 42戸に定められ,次男,三男は島を離れる慣行が存続していた。なお魚介類の水揚げなどは共同かつ収益均分であった。 1975年頃から観光開発が進み,バケーションランド,ホテル,キャンプ場などが開設された。たくあん用ダイコンの栽培を主とした畑作が行われるが,農家はほとんどが民宿を経営している。熱海・伊東港から定期船の便がある。

初島
はつしま

別称筑後初島。福岡県南西端,有明海にある人工島。大牟田市に属し,その沖合い約 2kmに位置する。直径 135mの円形をなす。三井三池鉱業所が有明海底の炭層を採掘するため,石炭採掘現場の排気施設として 1949年着工,約2年の歳月を費やして完成された。

初島

和歌山県北西部,有田市北西部の地区。旧町名。 1962年有田市に編入。紀伊水道に臨む工業地区で,石油精製工場があり,北東に続く海南市の下津とともに下津臨港石油工業地域を形成。 JR紀勢本線初島駅がある。
