Ma'anshan

Japanese: 馬鞍山 - ばあんさん

A provincial city located on the right bank of the Yangtze River, bordering the eastern Anhui Province and Jiangsu Province in China. Population: 480,000 (1994). Originally part of Dangtu County, the area developed from the iron ore mined in Ma'anshan on the Yangtze River and was made into an independent city in 1956. It is connected to Nanjing and Wuhu by rail and is an industrial city centered on steel. The steep cliffs in the southwest of the city where Cuiluo Mountain sinks into the Yangtze River have long been one of the key points controlling the Yangtze River. It was called Niuzhuiso because a golden ox once appeared from the shore, and Caishiiso because it produces five-colored stones. It is one of the three scenic spots on the Yangtze River, along with Yanziiso in Nanjing and Chenglingiso in Yueyang, Hunan.

中国，安徽省東部，江蘇省との省界に接し，長江(揚子江)右岸に位置する省直轄市。人口48万(1994)。ここはもともと当涂県に属する地であったが，長江沿岸の馬鞍山に産する鉄鉱石をもとに発達した工業地区を1956年独立させて市としたもの。南京，蕪湖と鉄道で通じ，鉄鋼を中心とした工業都市となっている。市の南西，翠螺山が長江に没する地点は急崖をなし，古くから長江を扼（やく）する要衝の一つであった。かつて金牛が渚岸より出現したため牛渚磯，また五彩の石を産するところから采石磯と呼ばれ，南京の燕子磯，湖南岳陽の城陵磯と並んで長江三磯と称される名勝である。
