Neoptolemos

Neoptolemos

A hero in Greek mythology. Neoptolemus means "young warrior." His father was Achilles, and he was also known as Pyrrhos ("red-haired boy"). After his father's death, he took his place in the Trojan War. A prophecy had been prophesied that the Greek army would not be able to destroy Troy unless he joined the war, so Neoptolemus, who had been brought up by his grandfather, Lycomedes, King of Skyros, was welcomed into the Greek camp, and Odysseus gave him Achilles's keepsake armor. He fought bravely, and just at this time, Eurypylus led a large army as the last relief force for the Trojans, but he killed Eurypylus and destroyed his army. He also hid in a wooden horse and infiltrated the Trojan castle, killing Agenor who was trying to protect King Priam, and mercilessly killed King Priam who fled to the altar of Zeus and begged for his life. It is said that Neoptolemus died young as a punishment for defiled the altar of Zeus with blood. He also threw Hector's son Astheanax off the city walls, and won Hector's wife Andromache from his share of the spoils. To appease the spirit of his father Achilles, he sacrificed Priam's daughter Polyxena at his tomb. At Thetis's urging, he stayed in Troy for a while and then returned home by land, but on the way he fought and defeated the Molossians, becoming king there, or he was killed at Delphi.

父はアキレウスで、別名をピロスPyrrhos(「赤毛の子」の意)ともいう。
