A genus of perennial plants in the Solanaceae family, with about 30 species known in tropical and subtropical America, some of which are cultivated for ornamental purposes. N. frutescens is 30-90 cm tall, slightly upright, shrubby and finely branched. The leaves are linear and about 2.5 cm long. The flowers bloom from June to autumn, and when they open, they are dish-shaped with a short tube that is white with a blue tinge and a yellow border with the tube. N. repens has thin, creeping stems, and the flowers are broad bell-shaped, 2.5-3 cm in diameter, milky white, sometimes pink or blue, with a golden border with the tube, and are fragrant. N. gracilis is also sometimes cultivated for ornamental purposes.
