A dispute occurred at Nippon Gakki Manufacturing (Yamaha) in Hamamatsu City in April 1926. The company's employees, who belonged to the Hamamatsu Joint Labor Union, went on strike after their demands for improved working conditions, such as severance pay and overtime pay, were rejected. The company used the police and right-wing groups to suppress the strike. The strike group fought back with the support of nearby factory workers and citizens under the full guidance of the Japan Trade Union Council, but suffered a crushing defeat with 350 employees being fired in August.
