Torii-shi
A feudal lord in the early modern period. Fudai. He lived in Watari, Mikawa Province, and during his time as Tadakichi, served Matsudaira Kiyoyasu, the grandfather of Tokugawa Ieyasu. His son Torii Mototada served as a subordinate of Ieyasu's hatamoto and was a distinguished military commander in various battles, and died defending Fushimi Castle during the Battle of Sekigahara. His son Torii Tadamasa became a daimyo of Yamagata with 220,000 koku of land, but was stripped of his title during the time of his eldest son, Tadatsune. However, Tadatsune's younger brother Tadaharu was given 32,000 koku of land at Takato Castle in Shinano Province, and during the time of his grandson Tadateru, he was transferred three times and settled in Mibu Castle in Shimotsuke Province with 30,000 koku of land in 1712 (Shotoku 2).
