Year of death: December 4, 1582 (December 28, 1582) Year of birth: Bunki 1 (1501) A military commander in the Sengoku period. Shugo of Mino Province (Gifu Prefecture). Son of Masafusa. Sakyo-no-taifu, Mino-no-kami. He lost the fight to succeed his brother as Shugo and lived in misfortune at Sagiyama Castle in Togi County, Mino, but was later supported as the lord of Mino by Saito Dosan and entered Okusa Castle in Yamagata County. He eventually fell out of accord with Dosan and was eventually driven out of Mino, and the Toki Shugo family was destroyed. There are various theories about the details, but it is believed that he was supported as Mino Shugo by Dosan in Tenbun 4 (1535), and was appointed Mino no Kami the following year. The most likely theory is that he was finally driven out of Mino in Tenbun 21, but this is not conclusive. After that, he lived in lodgings with the Rokkaku clan in Omi, and it seems that he was supported by Oda Nobunaga in his later years, but it is also said that he was under the Toki branch of the Maki family in Shimousa. In 1582, he was welcomed by his former vassal, Yoshimichi Inaba (Ittetsu), to live in Gire, Ono County, Mino Province, where he died of an illness shortly thereafter. He excelled in painting hawks, and some say he is the same person as the contemporary warrior painter, Toki Tobun. Another popular theory is that he is the biological father of Yoshitatsu, the son of Dosan.
