Teranthropus (English spelling)

Teranthropus (English spelling)
A fossil human discovered in 1949 near Johannesburg, South Africa, by John Talbot Robinson and others. Its scientific name is T. capensis . Its mandible has no chin, and the ramus on which the chewing muscles are attached is broad but not tall. Its teeth are larger than those of modern humans, but not as large as those of Paranthropus. Overall, it is sturdy and similar to the mandible of Man de Heidelbergensis, and it has been said to represent an intermediate stage between Australopithecines (ape-men) and early humans (Homo erectus), but today it is considered to be a member of the early humans. It is said to have dated to the middle Pleistocene epoch, hundreds of thousands of years ago.
