[Birth] Before 821 [Died] A literary figure and historian of painting and calligraphy in the late Tang Dynasty after the first year of Qianfu (874). Nobleman. Courtesy name Aibin. Born in Hedong (Yongji County, Shanxi Province). His family was descended from Zhang Hua of the Six Dynasties and was a noble clan that produced three prime ministers during the Tang Dynasty. For generations, they had been passionate about collecting paintings and calligraphy. In the first year of Dazhong (847), he was appointed Wairang of the Shangshu Cibu, and in the Qianfu era (874-879), he became the Minister of Dali. He excelled in clerical script and eight-part calligraphy, and was skilled in writing and painting. His books, "Yao Lu of the Book of Fa" and "Records of Famous Paintings of All Ages," are significant as a compilation of the history of painting and calligraphy up to the end of the Tang Dynasty, and are also highly regarded for vividly reflecting his historical consciousness during the critical situation of the late Tang Dynasty.
