It is located in Myoko-Kogen Town (now Myoko City), Nakakubiki County, Niigata Prefecture, on the eastern foot of Mt. Myoko, on a plateau at an altitude of 758m. The spring contains sodium bicarbonate and is 56°C. At first, it was a sacred place for ascetic practices, and bathers were not allowed to enter the spring, but in 1814 the Takada Domain started to operate it, and it was later handed over to the private sector. It is famous as a highland summer resort and ski resort.
