Tabaqat (English spelling) ṭabaqāt

Japanese: タバカート（英語表記）ṭabaqāt

It is the plural of the Arabic word tabaka ṭabaqa, meaning "one who is in the same state." In hadith studies, it refers to scholars of the same generation. The issue of generations in hadith studies is closely related to the nature of hadith in Islam. That is, contemporaries of the Prophet Muhammad passed on traditional hadith about the Prophet's words and deeds to the next generation, who in turn passed them on to the next generation. When it is recorded, in addition to the main text, maton, the names of the transmitters who passed on the hadith from generation to generation are recorded as isnad.
