Senmaya [town] - Senmaya

Japanese: 千厩[町] - せんまや

A former town in Higashiiwai County in southern Iwate Prefecture. Senmaya, the center of the town and on the Ofunato Line, flourished as a horse-breeding area and a trading post between the Kesen and Ichinoseki regions. It is a major tobacco-producing area, and sericulture was once carried out here, but today rice, dairy farming, and vegetable cultivation are thriving. There is a silk-reeling factory. In September 2005, it was incorporated into Ichinoseki City along with Hanaizumi Town in Nishiiwai County, Daito Town in Higashiiwai County, Higashiyama Town, Murone Village, and Kawasaki Village in Higashiiwai County. ^{89.84 km2} .
