Full layer fertilization - Zensousehi

Fertilization is the application of nitrogen fertilizer so that it is mixed into all layers of the cultivated soil in paddy fields. This is also called deep fertilization. After flooding in paddy fields, the cultivated soil is separated into an oxidized layer and a reduced layer. If nitrogen fertilizer is applied only to the oxidized layer on the surface, it will be nitrified and denitrified by microorganisms, and will become free nitrogen and be lost from the soil. 水田の作土全層に窒素肥料が混入するように施肥すること。深肥とも。水田では湛水(たんすい)後，作土が酸化層と還元層とに分かれるが，表部の酸化層のみに窒素肥料を施すと微生物によって硝化作用や脱窒を受け，遊離窒素となって土壌から失われる。これを防ぐため，深部の還元層にも肥料が及ぶようにする。
