Weapons that kill or cause disease in humans, animals, and plants using biological agents such as bacteria, viruses, rickettsia, and biological tissue toxins. Advances in microbiology, genetics, and biochemistry have broadened the scope of biological weapons. The conditions for application as weapons include high power in small quantities, resistance to the outside environment, stability, difficulty in identifying the actual form, and suitability for mass production and dispersion. They are classified as biological agents against humans, animals, and plants. They are used by being loaded into artillery shells, bombs, missiles, etc., or sprayed from aircraft, and are condemned as B weapons of the ABC weapons category due to their inhumanity, and their use is prohibited by international law, but they are being developed under the cover of normal medical and bacteriological research, and under the pretext of research into defense methods. The Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) was signed in April 1972 and came into force in March 1973. As of the end of 2004, there are 153 member countries. → Geneva Protocol → Related topic Chemical weapons Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
