A masterpiece published by American author W. Irving under the pen name of the gentleman Geoffrey Crayon. Published in volumes from 1819 to 1820. Contains 34 short stories and sketches, including stories set in America such as "Rip Van Winkle," a Taro-esque tale about a man who falls asleep drinking with strange men he meets in the mountains, only to wake up and find that 20 years have passed when he returns home, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," "King Philip," which generously pours out sympathy for the Indians, "The Ghost Bridegroom," a European tale, and "Westminster Abbey," an impression of England.
