Ukiyo-zoshi. Five volumes. Written by Ueda Akinari. Published in 1766 ( Meiwa 3 ). A work of temperament. Following the tradition of Ukiyo-zoshi, it consists of 15 stories that satirically portray the personalities of peculiar characters while expanding on them through strange tales. It shows Akinari's unique talent before "Ugetsu Monogatari" and is a fine work among the late Ukiyo-zoshi.
