[Born] Sadaaki 2 (916) [Died] Junka 2 (991) Chinese Song scholar and poet. Born in Guangling, Yangzhou (Jiangsu Province). Court name: Dingchen. He served the Southern Tang Dynasty as a Hanlin Scholar, Chief Censor, and Minister of Personnel, and later came to the Song Dynasty to serve Emperor Taizong as a Zuo Sanqi Changshi. He and his brother Xu Kai were known as linguists, and together they were known as the "Ei Xu," and Da Xu was known as the other brother Xiao Xu. The so-called Da Xu edition, which was edited by imperial decree in the third year of Yongxi (986) at the beginning of the Northern Song Dynasty, has been regarded as the standard text for the Shuowen ever since. He was also skilled in poetry, and his collections of poetry are called Xu Gongwen Collection or Xu Shengqi Collection. He also wrote a collection of fantastic stories, such as Jishen Lu.
