This is a breed of Gengorobuna, a species endemic to Lake Biwa, that has been improved to be suitable for aquaculture in narrow waters. It was named after the Kawachi region of Osaka Prefecture where it was developed, but it has come to be commonly known as Herabuna or Hirarabuna.
