A Korean Goryeo politician and Confucian scholar. Born in Haeju. In 1053, after retiring from his prime ministerial position as a priest, he devoted himself to educating the next generation. He established the Kusai Academy, which offered nine specialized courses, which marked the beginning of private schools in Korea, and at that time there were a total of 12 private schools. Students at the Kusai Academy were called Choi Gongdo (later Munheon Gongdo), and many excellent people came from the school, so he was called the Confucius of Haedong. [Hamanaka Noboru]
