Kono [village] - Kono

Japanese: 河野[村] - こうの
Kono [village] - Kono
A village in Nanjo County in the mid-west of Fukui Prefecture. Population 2,446 (1995). Located on the northeast coast of Tsuruga Bay, the southern end of the Nyu Mountains approaches the coastline, forming a steep, faulted coast. Coastal terraces have developed, and small settlements are scattered along the coast and in the valley bottom. It was a key location for maritime traffic entering Echizen from Kinki, and flourished as a port for Kitamae ships during the feudal era. Currently, the main industries are fixed net fishing and offshore fishing, mainly at the fishing ports of Nuka, Kokurakujo, and Kono, and the town receives a large amount of fish such as yellowtail, mackerel, and tuna. In winter, rough waves make it difficult to go fishing, so brewers have long been migrant workers there to make money.
