Japanese: キンカメムシ(金亀虫) - キンカメムシ

A general term for insects belonging to the Hemiptera, family Pentatomidae, subfamily Scutellerinae. Stink bugs of this subfamily (some scholars consider it an independent family) have extremely large scutellaria that cover almost the entire dorsal surface of the abdomen. The front and hind wings are tucked under the scutellaria without being folded, so in many species the tips of the membranous parts protrude from the tip of the abdomen. There are many bright and beautiful species, such as those with a strong golden-green metallic luster overall, or those with red stripes or black circles on a red, blue, green, or indigo background. Nine species are found in Japan, with many in Okinawa.

半翅目カメムシ科キンカメムシ亜科Scutellerinaeに属する昆虫の総称。本亜科(独立の科とする学者もある)のカメムシは小楯板がきわめて大きく，ほとんど腹背面全体を覆う。前･後翅は折り曲げずに小楯板の下に入れられるので，膜質部の先端が腹端から出る種類も多い。全体に金緑色の金属光沢の強い種類や，赤色，青色，緑色，藍色の地に赤条や黒円紋があるなど鮮やかで美しい種類が多い。日本には9種分布し沖縄に多い。
