… The beginning of airport planning in Japan was the Airport Development Law, which was promulgated in April 1956. However, the initial measures implemented based on this law were aimed at the temporary construction of minimum facilities to handle the demand for air transport, which was rapidly growing at the time, and so there were not many notable results throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s. However, five consecutive serious aircraft accidents in 1966 finally triggered a rise in momentum for improving airport facilities, and since then, the Ministry of Transport has implemented successive five-year airport development plans. As a result, the number of large airports capable of accommodating jet transport planes has gradually increased, and the construction of security facilities and navigational aids has also made remarkable progress in a relatively short period of time. …

…　日本の空港計画の端緒となったのは1956年4月に公布された空港整備法であったが，これに基づいて行われた当初の施策が，当時急速に発展し始めた航空輸送の需要を処理するべく最低限の施設を応急的に整備するといった方針であったため，1950年代後半および60年代前半を通じてあまり見るべき成果がなかった。しかし66年に発生した5件の連続大航空事故を契機として，ようやく空港施設改善の気運が高まり，以後，空港整備5ヵ年計画が運輸省によって連続的に実施されてきた。その結果，ジェット輸送機の発着しうる大型空港がしだいに増え，また，保安施設や航行援助機器の整備も比較的短期間に格段の進歩をみた。…
