A deciduous coniferous tree of the Pinaceae family that grows in the cold regions of Northeast Asia. It is in the same genus as Larch and is distributed from the Kamchatka Peninsula to the Kuril Islands and Primorsky Krai. It also grows large forests in the marshes of Sakhalin. It looks very similar to Larch, but its leaves are shorter and the seed scales of its fruit (pine cones) are round and do not curl outward. マツ科の落葉性針葉樹で,北東アジアの寒冷地に生える。カラマツと同属で,カムチャツカ半島から千島列島,また沿海州に分布する。サハリンにも湿地を中心に広い林をつくっている。外観はカラマツによく似るが,葉はより短く,果実 (松かさ) の種鱗は丸くて外方へそり返らない。
