A deciduous coniferous tree of the Pinaceae family that grows in the cold regions of Northeast Asia. It is in the same genus as Larch and is distributed from the Kamchatka Peninsula to the Kuril Islands and Primorsky Krai. It also grows large forests in the marshes of Sakhalin. It looks very similar to Larch, but its leaves are shorter and the seed scales of its fruit (pine cones) are round and do not curl outward.
