Japanese: 立机 - りっき

Also called Sosho Tachiki. To become a master of haiku. The Sosho formed and managed the school by instructing and managing renga performances and unza events, and publishing New Year's registers and anthologies. Students followed the Sosho in writing (shuhitsu) and acquired the ability to lead and manage, and then inherited the position of their teacher, becoming a Sosho. In such cases, they would hold writing exhibitions and manku performances to show their achievements to the public. [Ishikawa Hachiro]

宗匠立机ともいう。俳諧の宗匠となること。宗匠は，連句興行や運座の場を指導，運営し，歳旦帳や撰集を刊行するなどして，一門を形成，経営した。門下の者は宗匠に従って執筆（しゆひつ）などを勤め，指導運営の力量を身につけながら，師たる宗匠の地位を継承するなどして，宗匠となっていった。その場合，文台開きや万句合興行をして，世間にそのことを披露した。【石川八朗】
