Year of death: 15 July 1783 (Tenmei 3 June 16) Year of birth: Kyoho 3, leap year 10 (1718) A Japanese classicist of the mid-Edo period. A samurai of the Owari (Nagoya) domain. His first name was Hideoki. He was commonly known as Kumenoshin and Shichiro. His pen names were Rakujukan and Kimiguri. His father was Hideyo, and his younger brother Hidene. He studied under Amano Nobukage, a samurai of the Owari domain who carried out positivist research, and Yoshimi Yukikazu, a Suika Shinto scholar. He studied Japanese classics with his younger brother Hidene, his son Hidetoshi, and Hidene's sons Ingen and Masune, and made chronicle studies his family teaching. He co-authored "Nihon Shoki Sensha Ben." He was knowledgeable about the Ritsuryo system, and wrote "Rekidai Tokei Ko" by order of the domain. In 1773, he established the "Bunkai Shoko" (Bunkai Library), which housed a large collection of books. He wrote many books on ancient legal systems, such as "Ryo Gikai Hyogo," "Rakuju Hitsuso," and "Shusho Jingi Ryō Shūkai."
