...What is generally referred to as block construction is more accurately called reinforced concrete block construction or formwork concrete block construction, both of which are constructed by stacking factory-produced concrete blocks on-site. Reinforced concrete block construction is constructed by stacking hollow concrete blocks while inserting reinforcing bars into them, so that the concrete blocks and reinforcing bars become one unit and form a wall. Formwork concrete block construction is constructed by combining H-, L-, Z-, or T-shaped concrete blocks to form a form, placing reinforcing bars in the hollow spaces, and pouring concrete into them. In terms of quantity, the former type accounts for the majority (Figure).
