Katagami Bay

...The depth of the bay is about 10m in the center, shallow in the east, and about 20m in the west. Fishing is done in the bay using gill nets and single-line fishing for mullet and sea bream, and beach seine fishing for anchovies. Cultured pearls, which replaced the natural pearls harvested by the Omura Domain during the Edo period, are now produced mainly in Katagami Bay on the west coast. At the mouth of the bay is Hario Island, and the bay is connected to the open ocean by the Hario (Inoura) Strait and the Haiki Strait, but there is little seawater transport in the bay, and in the summer the seabed water in the center of the bay becomes anoxic, and red tides also occur.
