When the two shafts are not on the same line but are parallel, an Oldham coupling is used, in which the front of the flanges attached to the ends of both shafts has perpendicular grooves, and a disk with protrusions on the front and back at right angles to each other is inserted between the two flanges to connect the two shafts, and a universal joint is used when the two shafts intersect.
