...The true stories include "Sendai-Hagi" and "Date-Gan-Hiroku". There are many Kabuki and Joruri works from the Kabuki Kyogen "Otorige Goju-Shigun" performed in Edo in 1746 (Enkyo 3) until the Meiji era, but the most famous is "Kara-Sendai-Hagi". This is a reverse import of the Kabuki Kyogen "Date-Kurabe-Okuni Kabuki" that premiered in Edo in 1778 (Anei 7) and became a puppet Joruri the following year. The script is unconventional, with Gidayu in the first half and a historical drama-style performance in the second half, but the scene where Masaoka, the young prince's wet nurse, has her child tested for poison and then laments as she holds the corpse is completed as a tragedy. ...

…実録本には，《仙台萩》《伊達厳秘録》などがある。歌舞伎，浄瑠璃には，1746年(延享3)江戸で演じられた《大鳥毛五十四郡（おおとりげごじゆうしぐん）》という歌舞伎狂言以降，明治までいろいろな作品があるが，いちばん著名なのは《伽羅先代萩》である。これは，78年(安永7)に江戸初演の《伊達競阿国戯場（だてくらべおくにかぶき）》という歌舞伎狂言が翌年人形浄瑠璃になったのを逆輸入したもので，前半に義太夫を入れ後半を史劇風な演出で見せる変則的な台本だが，幼君の乳母である政岡がわが子に毒見をさせ，その死骸を抱いて嘆く場面が悲劇として完成されている。…
