Year of death: September 18, 4th year of Meiō (October 6, 1495) Year of birth: Bun'an 3 (1446) A military commander in the Muromachi and Sengoku periods. His childhood name was Kamedomaru. He was called Shinsuke and held the position of Sakyo no Daibu (chief of the Left Capital). He was the son of Norihiro. In 1465, he succeeded Norihiro as head of the family after his death and became the shugo (military governor) of Suo, Nagato, Buzen, and Chikuzen. When the Onin War broke out in 1467, he went east as a military commander on the Western side and fought against the Eastern side in Kyoto and its surrounding areas. Taking advantage of this opportunity, in 1469, Shoni Yoritada (Masasuke) seized Chikuzen Province. The following year, his uncle Noriyuki raised an army and rebelled against Masahiro, putting his control over the territory in danger. In 1469, he surrendered to the shogunate, and in 1470, he was granted his shugo position in Suo, Nagato, Buzen, and Chikuzen, and returned to Yamaguchi. In September of the following year, he traveled to Kyushu to subjugate the Shoni clan, and regained control of Buzen and Chikuzen. After that, he promoted the chigyo system and organized the Yamaguchi Council of Ministers and Magistrates, and strengthened his control over his territory, which had weakened during the Onin War. He sent troops to the shogunate's expeditions to Omi in 1487 and 1492. He also had contact with Ming and Korea, and had close ties with cultural figures, and published a collection of poems called "Jujin Wakashu." <References> Yonehara Masayoshi, "Research on Sengoku Bushi and Literature" (Saeki Hirotsugu) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
