...In 1832 (Tenpo 3), there were 55 oil wholesalers in Osaka, 3 in Sakai, and 5 in Hyogo. The oil wholesalers in Osaka were the Kyoguchi oil wholesaler, established in 1616 (Genwa 2), the Edoguchi oil wholesaler, which started the following year, and the Deyuya, which began during the Enpo era (1673-81) and was fully established as a wholesaler by the Shotoku era (1711-16). The Kyoguchi oil wholesaler was the supplier to Kyoto and Fushimi, replacing Yamazaki (Oyamazaki oil shop) from the beginning of the early modern period....
