…During World War II, most of the rifles used by each country were pre-war rifles. The MKb42 and StG44 (both 7.92mm caliber, fully/semi-automatic, 500-600 rounds per minute) adopted by the German army in the latter part of the war were also called assault rifles, and were guns that had some of the characteristics of various different firearms such as conventional rifles, automatic rifles, and light machine guns, and became the prototypes for rifles of each country after the war. After World War II, due to the movement for standardization of firearms by NATO in the West, the United States proposed the 7.62mm caliber to NATO countries, and these countries ended up adopting the 7.62mm caliber. …
