...In the second half of the 19th century, influenced by the movements for self-government in Ireland and Scotland, a movement to restore Wales's identity, mainly in the areas of education and religion, came to the forefront, resulting in the establishment of the Welsh Office to handle educational administration (1906) and the abolition of the Church of England's privileges in Wales (1914). The movement continued to languish due to the economic recession and unemployment problems during the interwar period, as well as the passive attitude of the Labour Party, which had taken control of constituencies in place of the Liberal Party, but it was revived against the backdrop of the prosperity after World War II and the growing resentment against the progress of centralization. In 1966, a Minister for Wales and a Welsh Office were established, and in 1967, the Welsh Language Act meant that England did not include Wales for the first time in two centuries. The Welsh national party, Plaid Cymru, which was formed in 1925, also gained strength from the second half of the 1960s, and in 1979, a bill to expand Welsh self-government was put to a referendum. ... *Some of the glossaries referring to the Welsh Language Act are listed below.
