Jingchu Almanac - English translation

Japanese: 荆楚歳時記 - けいそさいじき（英語表記）Jīng chǔ suì shí jì

A book that records the customs of the Six Dynasties period in China, mainly in Jingchu (Hunan and Hubei provinces), with details of the seasons from New Year to December. Written by Sorin (498-502) of the Liang dynasty, a one-volume version with detailed annotations by Du Gongzhan of the Sui dynasty is widely circulated, but Sorin's original work is thought to have been ten volumes long. It is the oldest surviving private annual event record, and includes Buddhist events such as the Buddha's Birthday in April, the Obon Festival in July, and the Tsuina Festival in December.

中国，荆楚つまり湖南省，湖北省を中心とする六朝時代の習俗を，正月から12月までの歳時を分かって記した書物。梁の宗懍（そうりん）(498‐502)が著し，隋の杜公瞻（とこうせん）が詳しい注を付した1巻本が流布しているが，宗懍の原著は10巻であったらしい。民間の年中行事記としては現存最古のものであって，そのなかには，仏教的行事も，たとえば4月の灌仏会，7月の盂蘭盆会（うらぼんえ），12月の追儺（ついな）などが含まれている。
