...The former was written in the Croatian dialect of Kai, spoken north of Zagreb, while the latter adopted Karadzic's orthography and was printed in the Serbian-speaking Štian dialect. The following year, the two papers were renamed the Illyrian Press and the Illyrian Star, and used only the Štian dialect, which was by far the most widely spoken. By adopting the Illyrian name, they hoped to unify all Illyrians, i.e. South Slavs, under a common written language.
