Contains talks on the art of 13 great actors (Sawamura Sojuro I, Nakamura Tomijuro, Onoe Kikugoro, Nakamura Utaemon, Nakamura Nakazo, Bando Mitsugoro II, Arashi Sangoro, Ichikawa Danzo, Matsumoto Koshiro III, Segawa Kikunojo, Ichikawa Danjuro IV, Iwai Hanshiro, and Ichikawa Danjuro V) who were active from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is full of valuable talks on the art, such as the training guidelines to be loved by the performer and to train steadily step by step, lessons on character creation such as becoming the character of the role, valuing fruit and using flowers as decoration, and other topics such as the selection of kyogen, dance choreography, requests to patrons, and how to coordinate with your co-star.
